Jaffna residents reap benefits from SL Army social service initiatives
April 05, 2024A new house built by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops of Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SF-J) for a single mother with a young child in Anandapuram was handed over to the beneficiary recently (Apr 02). The house was constructed by troops of 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry with assistance from generous philanthropists from America, SLA media reports.
In another ceremony, a water supply project at St. Fatima Roman Catholic School installed by troops of 1 (V) Gajaba Regiment was also handed over for the use of students recently.
Both ceremonies were held with the participation of Commander of SF - J Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe.
Additional District Secretary of Kilinochchi S Mularitharan, Principal of St. Fatima Roman Catholic School Rev. Sister Nirmala Wasanthan, and senior military officers were also associated with these ceremonies, it says.
Meanwhile, about 400 residents of Selvapuram and Yogapuram villages attended an educational session organized by SF-J at the CIMIC Park of 51 Infantry Division recently (Apr 02). Professor K. Paheerathen from the University of Jaffna and Mrs. Paheerathen made valuable contributions with their intellect to conduct the programme, it says.
