President Wickremesinghe declares open new SLESA Headquarters Complex

The newly constructed Headquarters Complex of the Sri Lanka Ex- Servicemen’s Association (SLESA) was declared open by President Ranil Wickremesinghe at Akuregoda in Battaramulla today (May 22).

Senior Adviser on National Security to the President and Chief of the Presidential Staff Mr. Sagala Ratnayake and Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne were present at the occasion.

The President was received by the SLESA President Maj. Gen. Upul Perera (Retd) on his arrival at the venue this morning. President Wickremesinghe upon unveiling the commemorative plaque made an inspection visit of the new facility.

While addressing the gathering, President Wickremesinghe praised the services of the veterans and said that the new headquarter facility would serve to uplift their welfare and administrative requirements and also mentioned the Defence Secretary’s special interest in achieving this project. He said that legal deeds of land ownership in Ranaviru villages will be provided under the ‘Urumaya” programme upon recommendations of the special committee.

Work on the new 10,032 Sqft two storied SLESA complex commenced in August last year (2023) on a 266 perch land near the Defence Headquarters Complex. Construction work of this Rs. 60 million project was completed with technical expertise and human resource of the Tri-Services.

Chief of Defence Staff, Tri Forces Commanders, senior Defence Ministry officials, former commanders, SLESA officials and senior tri forces officers were among the distinguished guests present at the occasion.
