Diyawanna Vesak Zone 2024 begins tomorrow

The annual Diyawanna Vesak Zone 2024, jointly organized by the Ministry of Defence and Independent Television Network (ITN), will be commenced tomorrow (May 23). It will be open for viewing till the 25th (May).

The ceremonial illumination of the Vesak lanterns will take place tomorrow evening under the patronage of Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne and the Chairman of ITN Mr. Sudarshana Gunawardana.

The Vesak Zone is being held with the participation of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force and Civil Security Department.

Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha and the Ministry of Defence road in Battaramulla will be lit up with Vesak lanterns and decorative lights and all people can witness the commemoration of the most vibrant Buddhist celebration in the country.

Diyawanna Vesak Zone will be filled with beautifully crafted lanterns and other exhibits that display the flair of master craftsmanship created in collaboration with the armed forces. The entire area will be illuminated creating a dazzling panorama and a feast for the eyes.

A decorated mobile Bakthi Gee platform would set the stage for melodious chorale of Bakthi Gee (Songs of religious devotion) performed by armed forces personnel.

Walking along the brightened pathways all can join ‘Amisha Pooja’ at Diyawanna Vesak Zone, which brings bliss to all.

Those visiting the Vesak Zone will also have the opportunity to enjoy offerings of free food and drinks from the ‘Dansalas’ put up there.
