Sri Lanka attends 22nd Regional Meeting of National Authorities of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention in Asia
June 06, 2024The 22nd Regional Meeting of National Authorities of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention in Asia was held in Uzbekistan from 29 to 31 May (2024). Representing Sri Lanka the Director of the National Authority for Implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) under the Ministry of Defence Sri Lanka, Rear Admiral (Dr.) Ravi Ranasinghe, attended the event.
This regional meeting of National Authorities serves as a forum for States Parties to discuss needs, priorities, actions taken, and best practices in relation to the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) at the national, sub regional and regional levels. Participants also discussed the capacity-development support provided within the framework of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) programme to strengthen cooperation between Asian regional member states at the Chemical Weapons Convention.
During the Programme, the director of the National Authority of Sri Lanka delivered an informative presentation on the topic “Preventing Illicit Transfers of Scheduled Chemicals in Sri Lanka” and availed the opportunity for productive discussions with regional experts.
