State Minister launches School Development Projects in
Matale and Dambulla

Construction works of a new playground at Dambulla National School, addressing a longstanding need at the School was initiated today (July 19) under the auspices of the State Minister of Defence Hon. Premitha Bandara Thennakoon.  10 million rupees from the Minister's  decentralized budget  and 5 million rupees from the Sri Lanka Cricket Board have been allocated for the development project. The Sri Lanka Navy will provide labour contribution to ensure the timely completion of this project.

In a historic move, a portion of the budget allocation of Disaster Management Centre under the Ministry of Defence has been utilized towards school development. This initiative saw an initial allocation of 20 million rupees to Akurambada Primary School and 20  million rupees to Madipola School commencing development projects today. This visionary decision by the Minister will not only enhance educational facilities but also position these schools as potential disaster relief centres, providing crucial community support during emergencies.

Addressing the occasion, the Minister stated that it is the responsibility of all of us to recognize the talents of children, value their abilities and be a pillar of strength for them to conquer the future.

Major General  Udaya Herath (Retd), Director General of the Disaster Management Centre, senior Sri Lanka Navy officers, government officials, Principals, teachers and students were also present at the events.
