60th edition of the ‘Universal Classic Cinema Show’
dedicated to the Tri Forces

Ministry of Defence Media Division in collaboration with the Mass Media Research Division of the Department of Government Information organized the 60th edition of the ‘Universal Classic Cinema Show’ for Tri Forces personnel at its theatre in Colombo 5, yesterday (Jul 25), as instructed by the State Minister of Defence Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon and the Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne.

This special film screening of the award-winning Hindi movie 'Sam Bahadhur' (Sam the Brave), based on the character of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw of the Indian Army, was organized to help Tri Forces personnel to gain knowledge of military leaders and also boost their morals.

Assistant Director of the Information Department Dr. Harsha B. Abeykoon conducted the welcome speech. Senior Professor Dharma Keerthi Sri Ranjan from Colombo University, Lecturer Ms. Subha Rathnayake from Kelaniya University and Brigadier Sri Mudannayake (Retd) also delivered speeches.

Director Media and Spokesman of the Ministry of Defence Colonel Nalin Herath delivered the vote of thanks. Further, he mentioned that the Director of the movie Meghna Gulzar also appreciated the effort on screening her movie for the Sri Lankan military personnel.

Chief Secretary of the Western Provincial Council Ms. Dhammika K Wijayasinghe, former Governor of Northern Province Major General GA Chandrasiri (Retd), members of the diplomatic corps, senior officers, officers representing Tri Forces and Sri Lanka Coast Guard, media personnel, Artists, officials from the Government Information Department and KDU Officer Cadets were also present at the occasion.
