Australian Border Force JATF Commander calls on Defence Secretary
August 14, 2024An Australian delegation led by Commander, Joint Agency Task Force (JATF) Operation Sovereign Borders (OSB), Rear Admiral Brett Sonter made a courtesy call on the Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne at the Defence Ministry in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte today morning (Aug 14).
The Commander for Indo-Pacific Endeavour (IPE), Commodore Michael Harris and the Defence Adviser (DA) of the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka, Colonel Amanda Johnston accompanied Rear Admiral Sonter. General Gunaratne welcomed the Australian delegation upon their arrival at the Defence Ministry and had a cordial discussion.
During the discussion, Rear Admiral Sonter appreciated the anti-human trafficking efforts initiated by Sri Lanka and also mentioned their intention to increase training opportunities for local personnel.
The Defence Secretary expressed gratitude to Rear Admiral Sonter for the support and expressed his desire to continue to work closely with them.
Military Liaison Officer of the Ministry of Defence Maj. Gen. Dhammika Welagedara was also present at the occasion.
