Defence Secretary inaugurates ‘Aegis Lexicon 2024’ Defence Cyber Exposition

Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne, as the Chief Guest, inaugurated the ‘Aegis Lexicon 2024’, the Defence Cyber Exposition held by the Defence Cyber Command (DCC), on August 08 and 09 at the Ministry of Defence.

The event brought together key figures from Sri Lanka’s tri-forces, law enforcement and academia to address the rapidly evolving landscape of cyber security. The Chief of National Intelligence (CNI) Major General Ruwan Kulatunga was also present at the event held in view of the completion of DCC's first year of operations.

The DCC has made remarkable strides since its establishment on August 3, 2023, earning national and international recognition. The event featured sessions on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Operational Technology (OT) Security and Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) protection.

Industry experts including the Director of DCC Brigadier KVP Dhammika and Dr. Subodha Charles from the University of Moratuwa provided valuable insights into safeguarding Sri Lanka’s digital assets in the era of 5th Generation Warfare (5GW) during the session.

Day one focused on the evolving cyber security landscape, with practical demonstrations by the Sri Lanka Army that highlighted cutting-edge defence techniques. Day two sessions emphasized maritime and aviation cyber security, with presentations and live demonstrations by the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force, showcasing strategies to secure these critical sectors.

The event concluded with a forward-looking panel discussion on the future direction of the DCC. The enthusiastic participation of attendees further enriched the discussions, contributing to the event’s overall success.

Aegis Lexicon 2024 sets a new standard for cyber security initiatives in Sri Lanka, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to protecting its cyberspace against emerging threats. The event is poised to become an annual highlight in Sri Lanka’s defence calendar and drive continuous advancements in cyber security sphere.

Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, several Additional Secretaries of the Ministry of Defence and senior officers representing tri-forces were also present at the occasion.
