SLN setsup 800th RO plant in Ruwanwelisaya premises

Accomplishing yet another social welfare oriented initiative, Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) installed a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant at the Ruwanwelisaya premises, in Anuradhapura yesterday (Dec 26).

The new facility is expected to deliver safe drinking water for thousands of devotees/pilgrims paying homage to the sacred Maha Stupa throughout the year.

The Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, during a visit to Anuradhapura declared open the RO plant and vested it for the  public.

According to SLN sources, yesterday’s RO plant installation symbolizes the milestone of 800th RO plant  within the project, that was mooted to facilitate the water-stressed populace in the island, and it has also a befitting solution to eradicate the regional chronic kidney failure.

The noble concept brought forward to eradicate the ailment, under the patronage of the Health Ministry, was propelled by the Navy’s technical proficiency, manpower and the funds generated through social responsibility.     

The brief ceremony organized to vest the facility on folks was held adhering to the healthcare guideline, SLN also said.

The Chief Priest of Nuwarakalawiya region and Chief Prelate Ruwanweli Maha Chaithyaramaya Most Ven. Pallegama Siri Sumana Rathanapala Hemarathana Thero, SLN’s Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson Chandima Ulugetenne, North Central Naval Area Commander Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias, Senior Naval officials, sailors and a large gathering of residents and devotees were also present at the RO plant inaugural session.
