New Paediatric Ward Complex built with
SL Air Force expertise at Apeksha Hospital declared open

A four-storied ward complex dedicated to treating children at Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama built with technical and manpower expertise of Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) was ceremonially declared open on Tuesday (Sep 03). Air Force media sources state that the Rs. 150 million project constructed by the SLAF under the ‘Husma’ project, with financial assistance from the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Dewalaya was completed within a year.

This new Paediatric ward complex is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and could accommodate treatment for more than 70 patients. Originally planned as a three-story complex, it was later expanded to accommodate another floor due to the voluntary labour and expertise of SLAF, it says. SLAF has also renovated adjacent facilities at the Hospital, thereby enhancing the overall infrastructure of the hospital.

The official handing over ceremony was graced by SLAF Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickramarathne. Basnayaka Nilame of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Dewalaya, Dishan Gunasekara, Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Palitha Maheepala, Director of Apeksha Hospital, Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, senior SLAF officers including SLAF Director General of Electronics and Computer Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Demian Weerasinghe, Director General of Construction Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Chandana Geethapriya were also present at the occasion.
