KDU GAMES 2024

KDU GAMES, the first ever inter-university sports festival organised by General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University was held at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium on 7th and 8th October 2024. The games were declared open by Major General CA Wickramasinghe USP USACGSC, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Administration) and President of the Sports Council of KDU. In this competitive arena of sports, 200 athletes from ten faculties of KDU and seven state and non-state universities participated, providing a breathtaking experience for undergraduates from both state and non-state Universities of Sri Lanka. Displaying strong skills, camaraderie and sportsmanship, the overall championship was secured by General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.

The undergraduates participated in Track and Field events competing neck and neck with each other, in an electrifying showcase of athletic prowess, leaving the crowd in awe while mesmerising performances from the KDU dancing troupe and Tri Forces dancing troupes added colour to match the vibrancy of the competition. On the second day of the event over ten schools got the opportunity to take part in the event by participating in the Invitation Relay-Schools event reflecting the energy of youngsters.

The closing ceremony of the KDU GAMES 2024 was graced by Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara, VSV, USP, psc, MMaritimePol, BSc (DS), the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University as the Chief Guest. Major General CA Wickramasinghe USP USACGSC, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Administration) and President of the Sports Council of KDU, Deans of all the faculties, Directors, Senior Academic and Administrative Staff, Officers, Officer Cadets and Day Scholars of KDU participated in the closing ceremony to witness the crowning moment of the event.

The event ended with a DJ party as part of the grand Closing Ceremony, marking the triumphant close of this vibrant inter-university sports festival, leaving behind memories of thrilling victories, sportsmanship, and a united community of athletes in Sri Lankan universities.

Recognising the outstanding individual and faculty performances at KDU GAMES 2024, the following awards were presented by the Chief Guest.
