Tri-Forces assistance for those affected by inclement weather
October 13, 2024The Tri-Forces relief teams have been working continuously to ensure the safety of those residing in the areas affected by floods and landslides reported due to the prevailing adverse weather in the island.
They are also working to provide essential support for the effective execution of ongoing relief services.
Under the directives of H.E. the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) and the Tri-Forces Commanders are closely monitoring these operations.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) coordinates the relief services in collaboration with the government officials in all the districts affected by the disaster.
According to the current data, 24,492 people in 6,018 families have been affected by floods and landslides in 11 districts due to adverse weather conditions, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) informs.
Currently, 23 disaster relief centres are in operation to aid the displaced, and 2,200 individuals, representing 584 families, have been securely housed in those facilities. Air Force helicopters, Navy boats, and Army armoured vehicles are prepared to rescue the displaced people if needed, and Tri-Force troops have already been assigned to provide the basic amenities they require at those centres.
