October 22, 2024
A medical grade Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment plant designed by the Sri Lanka Navy for the Hemodialysis Unit at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital was declared open on Monday (Oct 21). According to Navy media, this is the 30th medical grade RO plant developed and installed under the Naval Social Responsibility Project.
In 2017, the Navy initiated the development of medical-grade RO plants specifically designed for dialysis treatment of kidney patients. The RO plant installed at the Minuwangoda hospital can simultaneously provide hemodialysis treatment for 15 kidney patients, it says.
Since 2015, the Navy’s Research and Development Unit has successfully produced and installed over a thousand RO plants across the island. The first RO plant was installed in the Kadawath Rambewa area in Medawachchiya. In June this year (2024), the project reached a milestone by successfully installing the 1000th RO plant at Sri Sumana Vidyalaya in Palukadawala in Galgamuwa.
The RO project operates under the able guidance of Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.
