Secretary Defence Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunaratne elevated to the rank of ‘General’
December 28, 2020Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), the Secretary Defence, has been promoted to the rank of General by His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa; a short while ago (Dec 28).
President Rajapaksa appointed Gen. Gunaratne to the post of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence the highest portfolio of the country’s defence, in trust of his ability, courage, commitment, sheer professionalism and the working calibre in any of the capacities shouldering greater responsibilities.
Gen. Gunaratne also completed his first year in office recently after assuming duties as Secretary Defence on November 20, 2019.
His promotion to the esteemed rank of General is a testimony of the exemplary, courageous and dedicated service rendered to the nation both in military and government portfolios to date.
