DSCSC Graduation Ceremony held at Nelum Pokuna Theatre
December 13, 2024The Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), graced the graduation ceremony of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) Course No. 18 held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre yesterday (Dec 12) as the chief guest.
Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva, and Service Commanders attended the ceremony as Guests of Honour. The Commandant of DSCSC, Major General Kapila Dolage, received the distinguished guests at the venue.
Course No. 18 commenced in January this year and concluded in December. A total of 150 officers, comprising 78 officers from the Sri Lanka Army, 21 officers from the Sri Lanka Navy, and 26 officers from the Sri Lanka Air Force, graduated at today’s ceremony. In addition, 25 foreign graduates from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, the USA, and Zambia were among those who graduated on this occasion.
The graduates who have excelled in academic achievements were conferred with special awards by the chief guest, Major General Jayasekara (Retd) during the ceremony.
The Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) is the highest seat of military learning for middle-grade officers of the Tri Forces and was established to develop the professional knowledge and understanding of selected student officers both in command and on the staff, where all military doctrinal and strategic level planning and teachings were brought under one roof, as practiced by many other armed forces of the world.
Members of the Board of Management of DSCSC, senior defence ministry officials, the Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, former commandants of the college, members of the academia, senior officers of the tri-services, spouses, and parents of the graduates were among the distinguished guests.
