New Army Commander meets with Deputy Minister of Defence

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, the newly appointed Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), at his office in Colombo today (02 Jan).

This marks Lieutenant General Rodrigo’s first official meeting with the Deputy Minister since assuming command as the 25th Commander of the Army.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister conveyed his wishes to Lieutenant General Rodrigo on his appointment and outlined key priorities for the Army under his leadership, emphasizing operational effectiveness coupled with strong governance and accountability.

This meeting highlights the importance of the Army’s role in National Security under the Ministry of Defence. It also underscores the Army leadership’s genuine commitment to good governance, resource management, accountability and the well-being of veterans and their families while upholding the government's policy.
