Army troops assist flood affected communities

January 22, 2025

Sri Lanka Army troops are involved in disaster relief activities in several parts of the country affected by floods. According to Army media sources, troops took prompt action to repair the damaged parts of the bunds of Mahanochchikulam in Galkulama, Kiri Ibba lake in Horowpothana and Sinnasittikulam lake in Palugaswewa.

Severe weather conditions have swelled waterways and rivers leading to localized flooding of low lying areas. Many lakes have reached spill level with some lakes facing threats of breaching due to erosion of the bunds. Tri forces mobilize their troops and available resources to assist disaster management authorities to prevent disasters by taking preventive measures during weather related emergencies.

Meanwhile, Army troops had prepared cooked meals for flood victims in Horowpothana with dry rations provided by the Horowpothana Divisional Secretariat. In addition, troops had also facilitated transport to people to cross flood affected areas in several areas after roads and bridges were inundated due to incessant rains.
