Indian High Commission Hosts 76th Republic Day Ceremony

The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka celebrated India’s 76th Republic Day with a grand event held at the Indian House in Colombo on Sunday (Jan 26).

The event was attended by an array of distinguished guests including Prime Minister, Hon. (Dr.) Harini Amarasuriya, Ministers, Parliamentarians, high-ranking government officials, diplomats, tri forces officers, and distinguished guests. Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and Secretary Defence Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) were also present, adding to the event’s significance, which reflected the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.

The evening’s program featured a blend of cultural performances that showcased the diversity and richness of Indian traditions representing the unity in diversity that both countries celebrate.

This year’s celebration in Sri Lanka reaffirmed the shared commitment of both nations to uphold democratic values and foster regional harmony.

The Acting Indian High Commissioner, Dr. Satyanjal Pandey welcomed the distinguished guests and in his address, highlighted the shared history and cultural bonds that have united India and Sri Lanka for decades. Defence Advisor of the Indian High Commission Captain Anand Mukundan was also present.
