Australian National Day Celebrations Held in Colombo
January 28, 2025The Australian High Commission in Colombo hosted a vibrant celebration on Monday (Jan 27) to mark the Australian National Day, which lies on 26 January. The event was attended by the Minister of Health and Mass Media Hon. Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa, as the Chief Guest.
The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and the Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) also joined the celebrations as the Guests of Honour.
The celebration, held at the Australian High Commissioner’s residence and the High Commissioner H.E. Paul Stephens, received the distinguished invitees at the venue. Conducting opening remarks, the High Commissioner highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations, built on shared values and sustainable development.
The event was attended by senior ministry officials, commanders of the Sri Lanka Army and Navy, the Chief of National Intelligence, Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, members of the diplomatic corps and a group of distinguished guests.
