Defence Secretary visits ‘BNS SOMUDRA JOY’
February 03, 2025Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) visited the Bangladesh Naval Ship BNS SOMUDRA JOY on Saturday evening (Feb 01). BNS SOMUDRA JOY arrived in Sri Lanka on Friday (Jan 31) on an official visit.
The Commanding Officer of the ship, Captain Md. Shahriar Alam, received the Defence Secretary on his arrival on board the ship. The High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka H.E. Mr. Andalib Elias was also present at the occasion.
Making a brief speech, the Defence Secretary recalled the long-standing ties between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He also reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to collaboration, joint exercises and information sharing, which strengthen the regional partnership and the resilience of diplomatic ties.
Commander of the Navy, Senior Tri Forces officers, the Defence Attaché of the Bangladesh High Commission in Sri Lanka, members of the diplomatic corps and a group of distinguished invitees, joined the occasion.
