Sri Lanka Navy’s Able Seaman RBG Chinthaka sets new benchmark in
Australia winning DUX title

Able Seaman RBG Chinthaka XS 114053 of the Sri Lanka Navy topped the Hydrographic Surveying Initial Employment Training Course, conducted by the Royal Australian Navy Hydrographic School, Sydney from 23 Sep to 13 Dec 24. Accordingly, he clinched the Waining Memorial Prize, as DUX of Hydrographic Surveying Initial Employment Training Course.

Hydrographic Surveying Initial Employment Training Course was attended by 04 Australian and 05 international students from Fiji, the Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Cambodia. Demonstrating exceptional dedication and excellence, Able Seaman RBG Chinthaka XS 114053 secured the Waining Memorial Prize awarded by the Naval Association of Australia National Council, for his excellence in hydrographic surveying.

This achievement is of historical significance, as RBG Chinthaka XS 114053 became the first international student to receive the DUX award since 1966.

By demonstrating exceptional skills during the overseas training programme, as the first Sri Lanka Navy sailor to secure a training opportunity in Australia, the sailor has not only set a remarkable precedent for fellow naval personnel but has also brought great honour to the Sri Lanka Navy.
