Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) appointed
as Acting Minister of Defence

Acting ministers have been appointed for four (04) key ministries, with the President's departure for the United Arab Emirates today (Feb 10) to attend the World Governments Summit 2025.
In the President’s absence, temporary ministerial appointments have been made for the Ministry of Digital Economy, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, all of which fall under his purview. Additionally, an acting minister has been appointed for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, currently overseen by Minister Vijitha Herath, who is accompanying the President on the official visit.
Accordingly, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne as Acting Minister of Digital Economy, Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) as Acting Minister of Defence, Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dr. Anil Jayanta Fernando as Acting Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and Deputy Minister of Foreign Employment, Arun Hemachandra as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism have been appointed.
