11th Contingent of SRIMED Level-2 Hospital Departs for UN
Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan

The 11th contingent of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC) has embarked on its mission to serve at the Level-2 SRIMED Hospital under the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Thursday (13).
Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel R.M.D.B Rajapaksha USP of the SLAMC, with Lieutenant Colonel K.D.P.D.E.A Wijesinghe SLAMC as the Second-in-Command, the contingent comprises 64 military personnel, including 16 Army Officers, 2 Naval Officers, and 46 Other Ranks. Their deployment continues Sri Lanka’s commitment to international peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance.
Prior to their departure, the contingent formally assumed their peacekeeping roles on Friday (31 January 2025), presenting a ceremonial salute to Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, at the SLAMC Regimental Headquarters ground in Werahera.
A gathering of Senior Officers, including Major General D.K.S.K Dolage USP psc, Colonel Commandant of the SLAMC, and the Centre Commandant of the SLAMC, attended the event. Family members, Senior Officers, and Other Ranks were also present at the airport to bid farewell to the contingent, offering their support and encouragement for the mission ahead.
The SLAMC’s continued participation in UN peacekeeping operations highlights Sri Lanka’s ongoing contribution to global peace and stability. The Level-2 SRIMED Hospital plays a critical role in providing medical care to UN personnel and local communities in South Sudan, further strengthening the humanitarian aspect of the mission.
