March 06, 2025

The newly constructed hangar facility at the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit, MINUSCA, Central African Republic, was officially declared open by the Head of Office, Sector East, Mr. Bara Dieng, yesterday (03 March 2025). The facility was then formally handed over to the Contingent Commander of the 10th SLAF Aviation Contingent, MINUSCA, Group Captain Uditha De Silva.

Construction of the hangar commenced in early 2021 under the supervision of UN authorities. Designed to accommodate two out of the three Mi-17 helicopters of the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit stationed in Bria, Central African Republic, the new facility marks a significant advancement in the unit's operational capabilities.

Since its establishment in 2014, the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit has conducted maintenance of its    Mi-17 helicopters under extreme weather conditions, enduring intense heat, dust and heavy rainfall. The newly built hangar will play a crucial role in enhancing maintenance standards and improving the efficiency of technical personnel.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Sector Commander along with other UN officials from Sector East UNHQ.
