Info - NDRSC Launched
March 25, 2025- Natural disaster data dissemination digitalized
In a landmark event, the info-NDRSC Disaster Data System was launched on Tuesday (March 24) at the Disaster Management Centre in Colombo under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd). This new facility will enable digitalizing the present routine process of collecting and releasing statistical data on families affected and damaged properties by natural disasters in the country.
The system is developed in line with the National Statistics Development Programme of the Department of Census and Statistics, in line with data and information standardization and verification methodologies, and will facilitate data entry through all Grama Niladhari Division levels.
The event also saw the launching of the quarterly official newsletter, ‘info-NDRSC’, which raises awareness of natural disasters and provides information on disasters and disaster relief services. The development of the info-NDRSC database was facilitated with financial support from ‘Save the Children’ and technical assistance from ‘GIS Solutions (Pvt) Ltd’.
The inauguration of the new data system developed for the National Disaster Relief Services Center which operates under the purview of the Ministry of Defence is another step in realizing the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national program and the digitalization of the public services provided by the government. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), Additional Secretary of the Disaster Management Division, Chief Financial Officer, Director General (Planning), Director General of the Department of Census and Statistics, Director General of the National Building Research Institute, Director General of the Department of Meteorology, and also 485 Disaster Relief Services Officers attached to all District and Divisional Secretariats across the island who joined the proceeding through the online platform.
