April 09, 2025
The launching ceremony of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan 2025–2029, approved by the Cabinet and developed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), was held today (Apr 9) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo. The event took place under the esteemed patronage of His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
In parallel with the main event, Additional Secretary (Administration) Harsha Withanarachchi, Additional Secretary (Parliament Affairs and Policy) Gaminie Mahagamage, civil staff officers and tri-service staff members gathered at the Ministry auditorium to witness the live broadcast of the ceremony.
The launch of the action plan marks a significant milestone in the Government's on-going commitment to eradicating corruption and promoting good governance. Under the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023, the mandate of the Commission has been significantly expanded. Beyond the investigation and prosecution of bribery and corruption-related offenses, CIABOC is now tasked with implementing and overseeing national anti-corruption strategies.
This comprehensive five-year plan is a cornerstone of the Government's “Clean Sri Lanka” programme, which aims to foster a culture of integrity and transparency at all levels of public service. The initiative envisions elevating Sri Lankan society to a higher standard of ethical conduct, ensuring public trust and accountability in state institutions.
The Ministry of Defence, along with other government institutions, reaffirmed its full support for the successful implementation of the action plan, recognizing its importance in strengthening the nation’s democratic foundations and safeguarding public resources.
