Army plants more saplings to contribute reforestation
January 04, 2021The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) recently planted a large number of saplings around the banks of the Iranamadu reservoir while making arrangements to plant 7,500 saplings of rare species, in Kilinochchi.
The Sri Lanka Artillery's 8th Medium Regiment in collaboration with Access Engineering PLC organized the project under the directives of Security Forces Headquarters (SFHQ) Kilinochchi Commander and a large number of saplings were distributed among all military establishments in the area.
Senior military officers, members of Access Engineering PLC, Senior Officials of Irrigation and Forest Department and troops participated in the event.
Meantime, the SFHQ -Wanni troops planted a large number of saplings around the catchment and bund areas of the Kudawalpola tank, Poonewa tank, Galkadawala tank and Thammennaelawaka tank in Anuradhapura.
The project is in line with the ongoing 'Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak' drive of the Commander of the Army, focusing on reforestation and afforestation.
Regional state officials, Army troops and villagers joined their hands for the project during the session.
