Steps to carry forward Anagarika Dharmapala’s mission
January 22, 2021- Foundation stone laid to construct a Dhamma Hall at the Wimalagnana Temple, Homagama
Under the patronage of Sri Lanka’s Mahabodhi Society Chairperson and Chief Sangha Nayaka of Japan Most Ven. Banagala Upatissa Thero, a foundation stone laid to construct a Dhamma Hall (Dharmashalawa) at the Wimalagnana Temple in Homagama, in a bid to propagate the teachings of Buddhism yesterday (Jan 21).
Mahabodhi Society continued its mission of spreading the teachings of the Buddha through its noble service following the death of Anagarika Dharmapala, Sri Lankan Buddhist revivalist and a famous writer.
On completion of the project launched under the supervision of the Chief Prelate of the Homagama Temple, Monaragala Pangnalankara thero, it is envisioned to propagate Buddhism, teachings of peace, perfection and human values, not only for devotees but also for drug addicts undergoing rehabilitation.
Sri Lankan philanthropists, Indra Kanthi and Pathma Harsha Panagoda the biggest patrons of the Dhamma Hall project donated a land mass of 70 perch to propel the noble cause.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was proceeded following religious observances amidst the presence of Maha Sanga including Asgiri Chapter Chief Prelate of Shayamopali Maha Nikaya of Sri Lankan Maha Vihara Tradition Rajakiya Panditha Most Ven. Warakagoda Dhammasiddhi Sri Pangnananda Gnanarathanabhidhana thero, Malwathu Chapter Anu Nayaka Most Ven. Dimbul Kumbure Sri Wimaladharma thero, Asgiri Chapter Anunayaka Most Ven. Venduruwe Upali thero, Malwathu Chapter Lekhadhikari Most Ven. Dr. Pahamune Dharmakirthi Sri Sumangala thero and Asgiri Chapter Lekhadhikari Most Ven. Dr. Madagama Dhammananda thero.
The Trade Minister Hon. Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, Former Minister Arjuna Ranatunga and Defence Secretary and Secretary to the State Ministry of National Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), and the Mahabodhi Society Secretary Attorney-at-Law Dilshan Jayasuriya were also present at the occasion.
