SLN seized dried turmeric and glyphosate in Kalpitiya
January 27, 2021The Sri Lanka Navy’s (SLN) Northwestern Naval Command seized approx. 1340 kilos of dried turmeric and 80 kilos of glyphosate with three suspects during a special operation conducted at Daluwa beach, Kalpitiya yesterday(Jan 26).
The SLN had seized smuggled consignment following a search operation led into a suspicious dinghy moved towards the Daluwa beach.
The smuggled turmeric haul was found in 37 sacks and glyphosate in 800 packets, each containing 100 grams.
Suspects held during the operation were identified as residents of Kalpitiya aged between 35 to 43 years.
Items seized were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office, Katunayake for onward investigations.
The entire operation was conducted adhering to healthcare guidelines, the SLN confirmed.
