SLN’s ‘CONEX-21’ in operation
February 08, 2021The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) commenced its ‘Colombo Naval Exercise -2021’ (CONEX-21), for the third consecutive year at the western seas yesterday (Feb 7).
The annual exercise conducted incorporating fleet units is projected to uphold the operational expertise of the fleet units.
Both naval and air assets of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) will be engaged in the exercise enhancing the interoperability over the maritime domain.
According to the SLN, knowledge and experience acquiring through the exercises is gainful in managing both traditional and non-traditional maritime security threats and also vital in performing search and rescue (SAR) operations.
The Offshore Patrol Vessels - Sri Lanka Navy Ship (SLNS) Sayurala, Sayura, Sindurala and Samudura, Fast Missile Vessels - SLNS Suranimila and Nandimithra, Coastal Patrol Vessels - SLNS Mihikatha and Rathnadeepa, Fast Gun Boat - SLNS Udara and eight Fast Attack Craft of SLN including Sri Lanka Coast Guard Ships Suraksha, Samudraraksha and Samaraksha as well as MI 17, Bell 412 and 212 helicopters with an observation air craft, B - 200 King Air from SLAF are also taking part.
The exercise is scheduled to be conducted adhering to the healthcare guidelines that are in force to contain the spread of COVID-19.
