SLN ends ‘CONEX-21’ in western seas
February 11, 2021The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) concluded ‘Colombo Naval Exercise -2021’ (CONEX-21) on a successful note, off western seas yesterday (Feb 10).
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne reviewed the final day of the event, the SLN said.
The SLN had deployed 04 Offshore Patrol Vessels, 02 Fast Missile Vessels, 02 Bay Class Coastal Patrol Vessels, 01 Fast Gun Boat and 08 Fast Attack Craft from 04th Fast Attack Flotilla for the exercise.
Apart from that, 03 ships from Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) as well as MI 17, Bell 412 and 212 helicopters and an observation aircraft, B - 200 King Air from Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) had also been deployed for the exercise, the SLN also said.
According to the SLN, a number of exercises have been conducted, displaying naval cohesion and operational readiness among the units.
Both naval and air assets of the SLAF engaged in the exercise enhanced the interoperability over the maritime domain.
Moreover, this remains the first instance that a Commander of the Navy has attended the Colombo Naval Exercise in its history.
The exercise was conducted adhering to the healthcare guidelines that are in force to contain the spread of COVID-19.
