Army conducts FTX for overseas mission orientations
February 13, 2021Sri Lanka Army (SLA) conducted a preparatory Field Training Exercise (FTX), 'Harmattan - 3 ' for Combat Convoy Company (CCC) duties in UN Peacekeeping Missions.
FTX was held as a mission orientation and competency gaining prior to undertaking of tasks in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission (MINUSMA) in Mali and Goa, the SLA said.
The FTX commenced yesterday (Feb 12) at Mailady, Jaffna will see the conclusion on February 16 at Infantry Training Centre at Minnariya covering an area of 457.2 km in the Northern, North Central and a section of the Eastern Provinces.
According to SLA sources, a total of 20 officers and 223 Other Ranks belonging to 12 Regiments of SLA take part at the FTX under 5 phases in 47 vehicles including armoured vehicles, unibuffels and administrative vehicles.
During the exercise, troops will also develop the mission orientation and competency before they undertake tasks in the MINUSMA.
The SL contingent will undertake responsibilities as the replacement for the second CCC of the SLA who would be return upon completion of their one-year long tenure, this year, the SLA also said.
