Army, Navy and Police nabs several contraband rackets
February 19, 2021A joint operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) along with Police nabbed a well grown cannabis cultivation in Kaluwewa recently.
The Army had destroyed the illegal cultivation following the detection, the SLA said.
Troops of the 20 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment operating under the purview of the Security Forces Headquarters - Central raided the cultivation consisted of about 300 kilos, following a tip-off received.
The Kataragama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
Similarly, the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) led operations had nabbed a suspect with 2 kilos of Kerala cannabis in Karsal, Mannar and also nabbed 2 suspects who attempted to smuggle over 400 kilos of dried turmeric into the island via sea from Thaulpadu area in Mannar.
The seized Kerala cannabis along with the suspect was handed over to the Mannar Police for onward legal proceedings.
Meanwhile the two suspects held with the stock of dried turmeric were handed over to the Silawathura Public Health Inspector for quarantining.
The haul of dried turmeric was handed over to the Jaffna Customs Office, SLN also said.
