Army recovers remains of Narangala Ridge hiker
February 28, 2021The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) recovered the remains of Akalanka Perera (24) who went missing during a hike at the Narangala Ridge, Badulla yesterday (Feb 27).
A group of private company hikers from Awissawella had climbed the Ridge on Feb 26 intending a night camp amidst the fog despite the DMC warnings.
Following the notice on the hiker went missing, SLA troops rushed into the scene on the instructions of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Army Commander and found the missing person dead.
The search operation led by the troops while descending about 700 feet deep cliff, despite the fog had recovered the body of the hiker afterwards.
The remains were handed over to the Police and the hospital accordingly, the SLA said.
