Expedite relief for affected businesses following the Easter terrorist attack - President instructs relevant institutions

The President emphasizes that it is the responsibility of all stakeholders in the tourism and allied sectors, which have been inactive since the Easter Sunday terror attack, to work together to rebuild the business community in a systematic and efficient manner.

President Maithripala Sirisena made this observation at a meeting held with representatives of the Small and Medium Scale Business Association at the Presidential Secretariat this (04th) morning.

Heads of institutions including the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce were also summoned at this meeting and briefed on the difficulties currently faced by the business community.

Issues related to tourism industry and the difficulties faced by a number of taxes and the problems faced by private finance companies were presented to the President.

The Minister of Finance and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka have set up a Cabinet Sub-Committee to provide relief to these businessmen. However, the issue is that it not being implemented properly, the President said. Also he said the necessary relief measures will be discussed and implement speedily.

Mr. John Amarathunga, Minister of Tourism, senior officials representing the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and representatives from 30 associations of the Small and Medium Scale Business Association were also present in this discussion.
