Navy nabs 670 kilos of smuggled dried turmeric
March 08, 2021The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) nabbed 670 kilos of dried turmeric at the Serakkuliya beach in Puttalam last Saturday (6).
Three suspects were taken into custody along with 33 dried turmeric filled sacks and two traditional boats (Wallams) during the raid.
The persons involved in the racket were identified as residents of Kalpitiya and Palliwasalthurai areas between the ages of 37 to 52 years.
The suspects and the items seized were handed over to the Katunayake Customs Preventive Office for onward legal proceedings, the SLN said.
