Housing dreams come true under ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ project

Two new houses constructed utilizing ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ funds along with the military labour involvement were vested on two war veterans in a bid to appreciate their gallant service rendered to the motherland, during a brief ceremony held at the Wewahamanduwa in Mathara today (Mar 20).
Tri forces members are given complete and partial grants for the construction of their houses or to complete partially-built ones under the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ initiative.
Accordingly, Lance Corporal Y K D N Maheeraj of 9 Gamunu Watch received financial aids from the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ to complete his partially built residence.
He was wounded during the humanitarian operation and received his retirement later on medical grounds.
The house warming ceremony held amidst religious observances of venerable maha sanga was graced by the Hon. Minister of Public Security and Technology Rear Admiral (Dr.) Sarath Weerasekara and the Defence Ministry Secretary and the National Security and Disaster Management State Ministry Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) today.
The other beneficiary who warmed the new house is Colour Sergeant L Widhanarachchi of 10 Gamunu Watch was also a war veteran maimed following a cruel terrorist bomb blast in Kytes during the year 1997.
Accordingly his dream of completing the partially built house too became a reality under the aegis of ‘Api Wenuen Api’ fund.
Both beneficiaries were received valuable gifts during the ceremony.
Minister Weerasekara also recalled the initiative taken by His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to establish the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ fund during his former tenure as the Defence Secretary and reaping of its benefits by war veterans even today while addressing the gathering.
Ven. Maha Sanga, Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath, Army’s Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Senarath Bandara, Vice President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit and Chairperson of Gemunu Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch Shyamala Bandara, Military Liaison Officer of the Defence Ministry Brig. Dinesh Nanayakkara, senior military officers and their family members were also present at the occasion.
