Two US naval ships in the island

Two US naval ships, USNS 'Millinocket' and USS 'Spruance' arrived to the country to participate in the annual naval exercise "Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training Exercise (CARAT)-2019, on Thursday (18 April). According to Navy media, the two US ships were accorded a traditional welcome upon their arrival at the Hambantota harbor.

The 103m long USNS 'Millinocket' and 155.3m long USS 'Spruance' will take part in the Exercise scheduled to be conducted in two phases, inshore and off shore exercises. Sri Lanka Navy's 'SLNS Sayurala' and 'SLNS Samudura' are also scheduled to join the Exercise which is carried out with the main objective to strengthen maritime security and cooperation.
