Navy SVU launched tree planting programme

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) launched a command-wise tree planting campaign on the sidelines of the International Day of Forests.

Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne graced the Western Naval Command's main event held at SLNS Gemunu, Welisara on Mar 21, the SLN said.

The saplings were sponsored by LB Finance Ltd. in coordination with 'Thuru Sansadaya' environmental organization, the SLN also said.

Meanwhile, Navy Commander, Navy SVU President Chandima Ulugetenne, Vice President of Navy SVU, Dilini Wevita, Western Naval Area Commander and senior Navy SVU member Ayoni Wevita planted saplings of ‘mee tree’ signifying this year’s International Day of Forests on Mar 21.

Further, senior and junior officers, sailors and the staff of the Navy have also joined the event.
