President Maithripala Sirisena stated that he received the report of the Presidential Commission appointed to investigate alleged irregularities and fraud at SriLankan Air Lines and will reveal the truth to the public and Parliament in the near future.

He further noted that he assumed this position not to safeguard anyone but to protect people and the country and will enforce all required laws from top to bottom in order to curb corruption.

President Sirisena made these observations while handing over hand over 8000 land deeds to Mahaweli based community at Siripura Central College in Polonnaruwa today (2).

He further said that he is concern about corruption irrespective of its amount and over 6.2 million people voted for him as the President in 2015 to see an end to this. Politicians in power as well as in the opposition work against me when I attempt to rid the country of corruption, said the President while adding he will take measures to bring the culprits to book regardless of their positions.

Commenting on the Presidential Commission appointed to inquire Easter Sunday attack, President Sirisena said the current investigations are going ahead as per the recommendations of the said Commission. Accordingly, seven cases have been filled at Supreme Court so far, President said. Freedom and democracy restored by me has made me a respondent of these investigations and ready to accept whatever the decision of the Supreme Court, President added.

He further said he had strengthened Independent Commissions for this purpose and certain sections accuse him without having the clear picture. He emphasized despite all these challenges he will do his duty for the benefit of the country.

Those who have doubts about his actions can go to Courts and lodge a complaint President said. Commenting on the propaganda carried out by certain sections of the society against his battle to eradicate drugs, President said he does not heed to these accusations and his only effort is to make a better country for all the Sri Lankans.

The programme to hand over land deeds to Mahaweli settlers was initiated in 2016 with the objective of granting ownership of land to every Sri Lankan under the direction of President Sirisena is nearing completion.

To sympolize the occasion President handed over land deeds to a group of settlers. Governor of the Eastern Province Shan Wijayalal, Governor of the North Central Province Sarath Ekanayake, Ministers and members of Parliament including Anoma Gamage, Isuru Devapriya, Chamara Sampath Dissanayake, P. Dayarathna, Secretary of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment Anura Disanayake and Director General of Mahaweli Authority D.M.S. Dissanayake were among the large gathering .

“Mahaweli Mansala”, set up in Dehiaththakandiya to promote tourism in Mahaweli C zone was also vested with people by the President. This Mahaweli Holiday resort will provide a comfortable stay for local and foreign travellers who visit the area to enjoy the natural beauty.
