Houses for deserving families in Wanni

Two new houses built by Army troops in Wanni with financial assistance from two philanthropists were handed over to the beneficiaries recently. One of the two houses built in Ganeshapuram in Vavuniya was presented to the family of a deserving student who had come third in the District at the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam.

The decision to build a house to the family of Miss. R Niwarasana (11), which was living in a small wattle and daub house was taken by the troops after their plight was brought to their notice. The house was constructed with technical expertise of the troops of 2 Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) of the 211 Brigade. In addition, the student was also presented with an educational scholarship sponsored by two private professionals.

The other house built at Pampaimadu in Vavuniya was presented to another deserving family which was living in a small hut. The house, put up by the troops of 25 Sri Lanka Light Infantry under the 621 Brigade was presented to the beneficiary, Mr. Nagarasa Moorthy during a ceremony held on 10th April.

During the house warming ceremonies, an electric tube well, worth about Rs. 100,000.00 was presented to one of the families which was facing difficulties in obtaining water. Brigadier Jayampathy Thilakarathne who had provided this incentive had also given 100 coconut plants.

The house handing over ceremonies were graced by the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni Major General Kumudu Perera.
