President graces 'Presidential Media Awards 2018'
April 11, 2019President Maithripala Sirisena graced the inaugural 'Presidential Media Awards 2018' as the chief guest at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Convention Hall (BMICH) in Colombo, on Wednesday (10 April). Minister of Mass Media and State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardne was also present at the occasion.
The award ceremony is held with the primary objective to evaluate the skill, talent and special capabilities of journalists towards ushering in a media culture with social responsibility.
It is also aimed at encouraging the media in building up a well-informed civil society and to provide state sponsorship for journalists through evaluation of their performance covering the entire mass media field.
A number of veteran and young media personnel were presented with awards during the ceremony. In addition, four distinguished media personnel were also recognized with life time awards.
Ministers, Governors, Parliamentarians, print and electronic media personnel and distinguished invitees were also present at the occasion.
