New hopes with New Year for War Heroes

The Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) while addressing the Defence Ministry staffers prior to the commencement of the work after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year stated today (Apr 19), we all must be determined to work efficiently and to extend our maximum contribution towards the government’s development process while ensuring the national security in accordance with the vision statement, “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour”.

“We were able to successfully contain the COVID-19 in the island under the directions of the President along with the support of the state agencies and active contribution of tri-forces”, he said while extending his gratitude to all those who were involved in this cause.

Gen. Gunaratne recalling Ranaviru families during the session also said the measures to pay lifetime salaries and allowances to war hero dependents are in the pipeline under the directives of the President.

Defence Ministry’s Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson Chithrani Gunaratne, Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Air Force Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal Prasanna Payoe, Senior military officers, state officials and Ministry staffers were present at the occasion.
