Met Dept requests to take adequate precautions
May 14, 2021Issuing today's (May 14) weather forecast, the Meteorology Department said the prevailing showery and windy condition is expected to continue further due to the influence of the low pressure area over southeast Arabian Sea.
According to the Met. Dept., the wind speed could be increased up to (40-50) kmph at times over the island.
Wind speed can gust up to 60 kmph particularly in Northern, North central and North-western provinces, the weather forecast said.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and also showers or thundershowers will take place at several places elsewhere during the evening or sometimes in the night, it said.
Further it said heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected in some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and cloudy skies could be expected over the island.
Met. Dept. also requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
