SLN to douse fire on-board a container ship
May 21, 2021The fire erupted on-board ‘X-PRESS PEARL’, a container ship in anchorage about 9.5 nautical miles northwest of Colombo Port as brought under control by the SLN ships and craft dispatched for the task, said the Navy’s Media Spokesperson Capt. Indika De Silva today (21).
Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) responding to the distress call of fire promptly had dispatched two Offshore Patrol Vessels, Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Sagara, Sindurala and a Fast Attack Craft to the scene.
A Tug from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) was also engaged in firefighting, the SLN said.
According to the SLN sources, the distressed container ship has been manned by a crew of 25 who are Philippine, Chinese, Indian and Russian nationals.
