SICU constructed with Army expertise opened at Mulleriyawa
May 22, 2021The Special Intensive Care Unit (SICU) constructed with the expertise of the Sri Lanka Army was opened yesterday (May 21) by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi at the Colombo East Base Hospital at Mulleriyawa.
The new SICU consists of 8 Wards with 150 beds and 4 new ICU beds along with all amenities for treatment of COVID-19 patients and a special infection control pressure system unit etc. and it further supplements the national health care infrastructure.
The Health Ministry initiated project was sponsored by Seylan Bank PLC with generous support of its staffers.
Saving a large sum of state funds due to the technical expertise and human resources of the Army’s Corps of Engineer Service, the originally projected Rs. 50 million estimate was reduced to about Rs. 13 million.
Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva, Seylan Bank Chief Executive Officer Kapila Ariyaratne and Senior staffers, Health Ministry Secretary, Maj. Gen. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Hospital Staff and Army Senior Officers were present at the event.
