Secretary graces Police Athletic Meet 2019
March 30, 2019Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Hemasiri Fernando graced the closing ceremony of the annual Athletic Meet of the Sri Lanka Police on Saturday (30 March). The final ceremony was held at the Police Grounds in Bambalapitiya, Colombo 4. This is the 82nd Athletic Meet of the Police.
Upon arrival the Secretary was received by the Inspector General of Police Mr. Pujith Jayasundara.
Speaking at the occasion, Secretary Fernando praised the efforts of the police to develop sports among its personnel and said that Police sportsmen had on many occasions represented the country at international sporting events.
He observed that the contribution of the Tri Forces and Police to the development of sports in the country is noteworthy. He also praised the Police for its commitment to maintain its place in the sporting arena.
The Secretary awarded certificates and trophies to police athletes who had excelled at various sporting and athletic events during the ceremony. The IGP presented the Secretary a memento during the occasion.
Senior Police officers, state officials and a large number of police personnel were also present at the occasion.
