Indian vessel arrives to assist fire fighting
May 25, 2021Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) said an Indian vessel belonging to the Indian Coast Guard which is equipped with maritime pollution preventive and firefighting capabilities is scheduled to arrive at the location of the distressed ship 'X-PRESS PEARL' to douse the fire onboard.
According to the Navy Media the fire triggered on-board distressed vessel has now intensified further and is escalating towards the quarterdeck following strong winds and varying weather conditions.
The SLN said, ship’s crew and the emergency response teams were safely brought ashore.
A Dornier aircraft carrying fire extinguishing agents and oil-resistant chemicals is also on standby to respond in an emergency.
The Navy also warns the fishing community to avoid the danger zone.
