Russian Ambassador meets Defence Secretary
June 02, 2021The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Yury Materiy met the Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) at the new Defence Ministry complex today (June 2).
The Defence Secretary and the Ambassador Materiy had a cordial discussion on matters of bilateral importance and mutual relevance during the occasion.
Meanwhile, Gen. Gunaratne discussed the common difficulties experiencing by the diplomats in the presence of pandemic and also paid concerns into the potential avenues to overcome the situation.
Gen. Gunaratne thanked the Russian envoy for their continuous support and bilateral cooperation in numerous ways to contain the spread of COVID -19 pandemic in Sri Lanka.
Military Liaison Officer Brig. Dinesh Nanayakkara, Defence Attaché to the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka Colonel Denis I. Shkoda and Additional Secretary (Defence) PBSC Nonis were also present at the meeting.
