SLN busts dried turmeric racket
June 03, 2021The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) nabbed 362 kilos and 950 grams of dried turmeric and 571 kilos and 400 grams of onion seeds in the lagoon area of Wattakkalliya, Chilaw, yesterday (June 03).
Six suspects were taken into custody along with 14 dried turmeric sacks, 22 onion seeds sacks, two dinghies and a small lorry during the raid.
The persons involved in the racket between the ages of 30 to 50 years were identified as residents of Chilaw and Pannala areas.
The suspects and the items seized were handed over to the Chilaw Police for onward legal proceedings, the SLN said.
